In Craig Ferguson’s monologue tonight it was all about comic books… well, sort of. He started off talking about the National Comic Book Museum proposed for the Empire State Building and that drifted into the comic he read in Scotland as a boy. His favorite being “The Invisible Dick” which you can probably guess the double entandre he was able to get out of that.

He said he got some of the American comics, Spider-Man, Batman and Nancy. He also got Captain America but found him to be a little ‘gay’, running around with a shield the size of a paper plate. He talked about Wonder Woman who’s only power appeared to be getting ready in 30 seconds… which he believed was an incredible power since no woman he knew could get ready in under and hour.

He went on to talk about Batman and how he’s just a rich guy who bought a lot from Sharper Image and added the word “Bat” to everything he owns. He really liked Batman Begins but would like to have seen Michael Caine as Batman; a very relaxed and drinking Batman.

He talked about how comics were now called “graphic novels”, which we know isn’t exactly true… but he did have a fun line about it. “Saying Graphic Novel instead of comic is like saying, Lactose Intolerant instead of Milk Makes Me Fart.” From there he talked about how comics were popular world wide and got into ‘anime’ which was the only other slight error being its manga. He used this to transition into talking about Hentai and then the Karma Sutra…

Overall it was funny and somewhat well informed… then after the commercial he was reading emails and someone asked his favorite comic character. He ripped on Batman (continued from the monologue) and then fell into the stereotypical impression of a fan boy in a basement typing a complaint email to him. Silly voice and all.

I think its nice for the industry to be mentioned on any TV form with a level of respect… and if you ignore the very last bit it was pretty funny.
